Former United coach told Chelsea’s Tuchel not to sign CR7

Still without reintroducing himself to Manchester United, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo was very close to agreeing with Chelsea to stay in the Premier League and also have the chance to play in the Champions League.

The striker's hiring, however, ended up being barred by coach Thomas Tuchel. According to the Spanish newspaper 'As', the Chelsea manager's decision was taken after a conversation with Ralf Rangnick, former Manchester United manager.

Currently coach of the Austria national team, Rangnick would have given negative references to Cristiano Ronaldo for Tuchel, convincing the Chelsea manager to bar the hiring of the Portuguese. Tuchel has a lot of admiration for Ralf Rangnick, who was the one who gave him the opportunity to coach Stuttgart's youth teams and thus start his coaching career.

With Rangnick as a reference, the Chelsea manager preferred to position himself against the deal with Crisitano Ronaldo.

The English club's new football owner, American Todd Boehly, saw the arrival of the Portuguese striker positively and left everything ready for a hit. Cristiano Ronaldo, in turn, also saw the transfer as important for his career, as he could stay in English football, in addition to being able to play in the Champions League. After Thomas Tuchel's refusal, however, negotiations were blocked.

The Chelsea manager intends to have less popular players who can give the team what he believes is necessary at this moment. Chelsea has been undergoing a process of reconstruction after the departure of Roman Abramovich, accused of being one of the oligarchs to support the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin. In this way, the idea is to bet on cheaper hires that bring a positive return.

So far, Chelsea's only reinforcement for the 2022/23 season is English striker Raheem Sterling, who was at Manchester City. The club continues in search of new options in the market and must now focus on the defensive system. After the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, the club is looking for Kalidou Koulibay, from Napoli.
