Lyon prodigy Rayan Cherki showed a glimpse of what he can offer Les Gones in the future with a shining performance in their 4-3 win away at Nantes in the Coupe de France on Saturday.
About a week earlier, against Bourg-en-Bresse, Cherki became the club's youngest ever goalscorer at 16 years and 140 days old.
The youngster's performance was so impressive that L'Equipe dedicate a full page to him, branding the game the 'Cherki Show'.
Two goals, two assists and he won a penalty
Cherki couldn't be stopped on Saturday, scoring two goals, providing two assists and winning a penalty (which was missed by Moussa Dembele), while his first goal came with just 55 seconds played. No player that young had ever scored a double in Lyon's history.
"He had better statistics in 70 minutes than me in 11 years of being a professional," former Caen player Emmanuel Imorou said.
Rudi Garcia impressed by Cherki
Christian Gourcuff, Nantes' coach, experienced first hand just how effective the youngster can be.
"He's a very good player," Gourcuff said.
"I didn't know much about him, but he has a very bright future."
Rudi Garcia, Cherki's coach, was more reserved in his appraisal.
"He has to listen and work hard because he hasn't made it yet," he said.
"He has a long way to go, but I have to admit that he's been very intelligent.
"He's made a great effort defensively too and if he continues, he'll keep progressing."
"My teammates are helping me mature as quickly as possible," he said.
"I have a good understanding with Moussa Dembele. We're like brothers."
