Brentford have promoted Thomas Frank from assistant to manager following the departure of Dean Smith to Aston Villa.
Frank has been at the club for almost two years and will take the helm for the first time against Bristol City this Saturday.
The club will now appoint a replacement assistant coach to assist Frank with first team responsibilities.
The Bees are only a point outside the play-offs and have lost just two of 12 Sky Bet Championship games this season.
Brentford are the first club outside Denmark that Frank has worked at after the 45-year-old spent five years working with Denmark's U16, U17 and U19 sides, before becoming Brondby boss in 2013.
Co-director of football Phil Giles told the club website: 'Ras and I have used Dean’s departure as a chance to pause and review what we need to add to the coaching staff to keep moving forward.
'We feel the Club is in a good place and we don’t think it is time for big changes.
'Promoting Thomas to Head Coach ensures that we can keep building on the foundations that are already in place and working.'
Smith's fine work at Griffin Park led Villa to recruit the 47-year-old Englishman with John Terry as his assistant.
Frank will look to continue the momentum from Smith's reign and sporting director Rasmus Ankersen added: 'Thomas knows the Club’s strategy inside out and he is both respected and supported by players and staff at the training ground.
'He has played a major role in the development of our style of play over the past couple of years and we believe he is ready for the job as head coach.'

Interesting indeed. I've always liked him and felt very sorry for his sacking in Brøndby. It was a disgrace.

As expected really. Think it'll work out fine and no big difference to Dean in charge. The whole structures in place could make most managers look like they are over achieving. No disrespect to Dean though, great lad.

Smart move. No point in changing up the whole structure in the middle of the season when the club is doing well.

I was watching the Villa view with Stu Wakeford and he was suggesting that this would be the move and hopefully he can continue the journey that Dean Smith was on but, add his own ideas too it.

I truly hope he has changed since his Brøndby days - mind numbingly boring possession football and constantly telling the media "it's process". Apparently 2,5 years weren't long enough for the process to produce something vaguely entertaining. Did help further the progress of some very good young players though!

Good luck Thomas hope that you can keep this team together and bring in one experience goal poacher to capitalize on the many opportunities created so far this season
