Manchester United midfielder Fred has admitted that critics of Manchester United have every right to take aim after their dreadful start to the season.

The Brazilian has been singled out for disappointing displays since joining from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52million in 2018.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been widely condemned after a start to the campaign that sees them languishing in 12th.

Their latest setback came against Newcastle in the 1-0 defeat by Steve Bruce's side on Sunday.

Fred accepts that fans and pundits are well within their rights to criticise United.

He told Esporte Interativo: 'Some critics are pointless — but many can offer me lessons.

'I like to read what people are saying about my performances. With that, I can try to get better.'

'Every day when I arrive at the training ground, when I see those big letters with the name of the club, I pinch myself.

'So I know this club is gigantic. I like to read about its history, best players and historical moments.

'It hasn't been great times for us — our rivals are winning titles and we're not even in the Champions League. It makes our fans sad and I feel sad as well.'

The 26-year-old has played in six of the last seven games, of which United have only won three.

After the international break, Solskjaer and Co welcome fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in a game that could decide the manager's fate.
