As reported by journalist Gerard Romero, the future of Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona will not only depend on the offer that Manchester United submit for him, but also the Catalans' chances of signing Bernardo Silva this summer.
The journalist states that manager Xavi Hernandez conditions the Dutchman's exit to the arrival of the Manchester City superstar in the ongoing transfer window.
It is no secret that Manchester United and Barcelona have been negotiating for a while for the transfer of de Jong. Recent reports have even indicated that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a transfer fee for the Netherlands international.
However, according to Romero that might not be the case. He states that the last offer presented by Manchester United was €65 million (fixed) plus €22 million (variables).
Meanwhile, Barcelona are still said to be holding on for a sum of €75 million (fixed) plus €12 million (variables). Only then, the Catalan giants would consider accepting the offer made by the Premier League giants.
At the same time, Barça sanctioning the sale of the midfielder will likely hinge on the situation with Silva. The 27-year-old has been identified as the ideal replacement for de Jong by Xavi and the club's technical staff.
The former AS Monaco star himself is believed to be keen on jumping ship to Camp Nou. However, Manchester City are confident that the Portuguese international will be at the club beyond the summer, in which case de Jong might end up staying as well.
However, the Netherlands international would have to reduce his salary to continue at Barcelona.

We are not going to pay more than 40 millions for Silva. If he wants to come to Barca no problem but if e doesn’t want to come it’s fine stay in your club cause we are not forcing players to join our club

Thanks mate👍🏼 Honestly very few players have the unique skill set he does. Players like him are so rare and he fits so perfectly into both City’s and Barca’s systems. Makes sense why both clubs are desperate to keep hold of / acquire his services. I really do hope he stays at least one more season but if he goes I know he will be happier being back closer to home and I can only wish him all the best🙌🏼💯
Yes he is coming to Barcelona and I like it the way city and pep are helping us in the transfer👏

He definitely wants to go to Barcelona but the problem is we at City value him very highly because of what he has done for us and the unique set of skills he possesses. Pep doesn’t want him to leave and our board doesn’t either so they won’t let him go for anything less than 80m. And honestly, I agree with that price too (Not saying he is worth that much to every team/ the global market) but his value to us within our team is definitely about 80-100m.
Well said✅
