As reported by journalist Gerard Romero, the future of Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona will not only depend on the offer that Manchester United submit for him, but also the Catalans' chances of signing Bernardo Silva this summer.

The journalist states that manager Xavi Hernandez conditions the Dutchman's exit to the arrival of the Manchester City superstar in the ongoing transfer window.

It is no secret that Manchester United and Barcelona have been negotiating for a while for the transfer of de Jong. Recent reports have even indicated that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a transfer fee for the Netherlands international.

However, according to Romero that might not be the case. He states that the last offer presented by Manchester United was €65 million (fixed) plus €22 million (variables).

Meanwhile, Barcelona are still said to be holding on for a sum of €75 million (fixed) plus €12 million (variables). Only then, the Catalan giants would consider accepting the offer made by the Premier League giants.

At the same time, Barça sanctioning the sale of the midfielder will likely hinge on the situation with Silva. The 27-year-old has been identified as the ideal replacement for de Jong by Xavi and the club's technical staff.

The former AS Monaco star himself is believed to be keen on jumping ship to Camp Nou. However, Manchester City are confident that the Portuguese international will be at the club beyond the summer, in which case de Jong might end up staying as well.

However, the Netherlands international would have to reduce his salary to continue at Barcelona.
