Fulham fans channelled Wizard of Oz and joked there is 'no place like home' after relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.
The Cottagers impressed under Slavisa Jokanovic last season as they won promotion through the play-offs but their return to the top flight has been nothing short of a disaster.
Despite spending £100million on new players in the summer - the most ever spent by a newly-promoted club - Fulham have just 17 points and have a goal difference of -46 after 33 games.
Rival fans soon jumped on their Fulham counterparts to rub in the relegation confirmation as memes and GIFs quickly went viral.
A scene in the Simpsons became popular with Homer Simpson, depicted in one image as Huddersfield, crying in the corner and he was swiftly joined by Grandpa Simpson, represented as Fulham.
Huddersfield's relegation from the league was confirmed on Saturday evening after Jan Siewart's side were beaten away to Crystal Palace.
Fulham fan Steven Rees was at least able to see the funny side on Tuesday evening, however.
He tweeted a photo of a t-shirt that he purchased after Fulham won the Championship play-off final - only he has doctored the shirt to fit news of a confirmed relegation.
With bits of pen and paper, the new version reads: 'Fulham Championship play off contenders? Championship 2019/20.
'We were Premier League.'
Scott Parker is Fulham's third manager this season after dismissing both Jokanovic and Claudio Ranieri, in a season that fans will look to quickly forget.
But to make matters worse following the Watford defeat, the official Sky Bet Championship Twitter account tweeted that Fulham will take their place in the second tier from next season - just in case anyone had missed the news.
One fan even wrote that Fulham, a side who has got lots wrong this season, even managed to ruin 'their own relegation party' having collapsed when it made 1-1.
Fulham will now look to restore some pride and try to ensure they do not finish the season at the foot of the table, currently holding a three-point advantage over Huddersfield.

Fulham dont deserve relegation, there should be a play-off against a promoted team...
Well what if the promoted team played really well to get up there.

Why does Fulham even bother? Third tier football is what suits them.Always buying reje ct players with absolutely no idea about playing top football. This time they will not come from the championship.

Sad to see considering how much they've spent this season, but then Fulham spent huge amounts of money on foreign players rather than adding a little depth to the players that got them promoted. The thing is, they should have trusted their players who initially battled them out of the championship other than the 'big names' who did something next to nothing! Hope they have a great season in the Championship

cost(cause) of promotion: spending cost(cause) of relegation: spending moral of the story: need to spend wisely.

Some big players in the championship next season. Who will go?

Problem with Fulham was that they bought too many new foreign signings rather than adding a little depth to the squad that got them promoted initially

Hopefully a lesson to clubs that throwing money about won't guarentee anything.

It's usually sad if any team gets relegated especially for the fans. So whilst I sympathise with the fans, I'm glad Fulham have gone, only because the replaced a lot of the players who got them promoted with 'big names' and they failed to gel.

Went out and brought a shed load of players at the start of the season, a bit of trust in the players who'd battled out of the championship would have been nice to see, that said with the championship being the 3rd best supported league in Europe I'd say they'll have a good season next year, both the prem and championship are great leagues!!

Next year will be more interesting. Can’t wait for Norwich, Leeds United and Sheffield United to join the Premier League.

I’m sad for them. They had exciting good players and a nice attacking style of football. They just couldn’t quite get the team chemistry right I guess. Good luck Fulham hope to see you back in EPL soon!
