Fulham players want Scott Parker to be appointed full time manager ahead of the club's push for an instant Premier League return.

Sportsmail understands a core group of the club's senior players - including captain Tom Cairney - are backing Parker's claim to be handed the Craven Cottage reins on a permanent basis.

And the influential collective are prepared to express their opinion to sporting director Tony Khan, who will be responsible for the appointment of the club's next manager, should it help Parker land the job.

Khan is keen to canvas opinion of key members of the squad ahead of making a final decision on who will lead the relegated club's Championship charge next season, as well as Parker's impact on the training field.

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke is also a contender for the position.

Parker assumed the role of caretaker boss in February following the dismissal of Claudio Ranieri.

However, the former England international has only secured one victory in six games in charge - which came against Everton on Saturday.

Nevertheless, Parker had secured his players backing well before the weekend win over Marco Silva's side, despite the fact the club were winless during that period.

The Cottagers squad have found Parker's coaching refreshing and innovative following the more regimented sessions under Ranieri.
