Liverpool supporters couldn't help but vent their frustration over Martin Tyler's reaction to Takumi Minamino's goal against Southampton on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool beat the Saints 2-1 to move within a point of Manchester City and keep the title race alive after Minamino and Joel Matip scored to cancel out Nathan Redmond's effort.
However, fans were furious with Tyler as they said the 76-year-old's reaction to the goals sounded like he was 'commentating a funeral' and that his 'house had just be repossessed'.
Tyler previously spoke about his connection to Woking FC and made it clear he had Premier League allegiance. The Sky Sports commentator told The Guardian: 'The truth is I don't have any affiliation with any club in the League, not just in the Premier League but in the Football League as well. My own team is Woking in the National League.'
Tyler was eight years old when he attended his first Woking match and went on to play for the reserve team during Glenn Cockerill's tenure at the club. The 76-year-old is now said to be Woking's assistant manager.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the Sky Sports commentator showed little enthusiasm for Liverpool's goals on Tuesday - even though it means the title race will go down to the wire.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool's game with Southampton, Tyler also spoke about how he preferred to support 'the underdog' during important Premier League clashes and that the Reds didn't qualify for such a title.
The Sky Sports commentator revealed his stance after Jamie Carragher defended Jurgen Klopp's decision to rotate his squad following Saturday's FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea.
He said: 'The only time I can think of the whole country wanting a team to win was Leicester (in the 2015-16 season). We support the underdogs here, you can't call Manchester City or Liverpool an underdog.'
Liverpool supporters were less than impressed with Tyler's stance and took issue with his commentary following Minamino's goal. As a result, they flocked to social media to share their thoughts.
One furious fan took to Twitter to say: 'Forgive me for thinking Martin Tyler was doing a reading at Takumi Minamino's funeral there. Absolutely pathetic commentator now. Get rid.'
Another fan agreed by Tweeting the following: 'Minamino! 1-1! Funeral from Martin Tyler. Reacts like someone has just died.'
While one fan wrote: 'Matip has just scored a goal that might keep the title race alive and Martin Tyler sounds like he's just been served a shit sandwich.'
Others took to social media to write: 'Martin Tyler by the way. Horrendous, horrendous, horrendous commentator.'
Another added: 'I swear Martin Tyler didn't even say a word when Liverpool scored, he does not rate them?'.
While one supporter said: 'Never a doubt... On plus side Martin Tyler sounds like his house has just be repossessed...'.
Pizza company Domino's even took to Twitter to mock Tyler's reaction to Liverpool's goals by saying: 'How do we get a pizza to Martin Tyler to cheer him up a little?'.
This is not the first time Tyler has been criticised for his commentary. He was slated by Tottenham fans in 2021 after Erik Lamela scored one of the most sensational goals of the season against Arsenal in the London derby.
Tyler said after the memorable strike: 'It's gone in, Erik Lamela has arrived with a goal. Spurs, having soaked up some Arsenal pressure to lead in the derby, and you can see what it means to the players. No crowd or what - they're fired up.'
The fans took to social media to say Tyler's commentary did not do the goal justice and that they were 'fed up' with the 76-year-old.

Age is something you can not hide. When it comes, it will expose you. Old man, you need a rest.

Martin Taylor has passed his best and it took a while for fans to realize now. All his commentary is very boring and no enthusiasm just like the fans have described, someone had died or going to a funeral. Is time to have someone more excited for this game.

Peter Drury’s commentary when Rodrygo scored second goal vs City: "Oh, extraordinary! They prayed for miracles and miracles arrived! Real Madrid, the team of dreams! Where has that come from?! How did that happen?! “Bedlam! Bernabeu bedlam!" I simply loved it. ❤️❤️⚽️

I've never seen an article speak about commentators. I'm glad it's finally being spoken about. I personally feel that the commentary and commentators has hints of defamation, favouritism and somewhat condescending. Example. if Norwich is having the best match of their life against a top ten like Liverpool, the commentary won't lean toward Norwich playing well, but more toward that there is something up at Liverpool. It needs to change. #MyOpinion
