COLE PALMER furiously threw his gloves into the Chelsea dugout after being subbed off just 18 minutes in at Manchester United.

The travelling Blues were forced into early changes after goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off on five minutes after taking out Bryan Mbeumo.

Bruno Fernades opened the lead on 14 minutes and shortly afterwards, Palmer was sacrificed for midfielder Andrey Santos.

Chelsea's talisman looked baffled as his No10 was shown on the fourth officials board.

And his frustration was evident as Palmer chucked his gloves in the direction of the Blues' dugout.

The England international looked in better spirits walking off the pitch as he embraced with United's Kobbie Mainoo.

But there was little to smile about as Casemiro doubled United's lead ten minutes before the break.

Chelsea fans' misery added when Palmer returned to the bench with an ice pack on his groin.

The 23-year-old missed two games earlier in the season with a groin injury - only returning in the 2-2 draw at Brentford.

His latest setback left Chelsea fans fearing the worst as one said: "If Palmer is out for extended time we’re absolutely doomed."

Another added: "End the season already."

A third said: "You cannot be serious…"

United were also reduced to ten when Casemiro received a second yellow to cap off a chaotic first half in Manchester.

Trevoh Chalobah did pull one back for the visitor's but United held out to take all three points.
