Arsenal news: Gabriel Jesus has been recovering from a minor knee operation with a return before the end of August a possibility

Mikel Arteta has been handed a major Gabriel Jesus injury boost after Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a win against Nottingham Forest at Emirates Stadium.

Eddie Nketiah was given the nod up front, after Kai Havertz started at false 9 in the Community Shield, in place of the Brazil international after he picked up a knee issue in the pre-season friendly win over Barcelona.

"It’s a bit early still. Less than two weeks since the operation. Hopefully he can start to do some stuff next week. He's doing really well to be fair. But it’s something we’re going to be cautious and make sure he comes back in the right way."

After the game had ended, Jesus was spotted walking without a limp through the mixed zone with big progress made in his recovery since the Community Shield. Arteta's initial timeline for a potential return would place could see Jesus back in the squad to face Fulham at Emirates Stadium on August 26.
