Gabriel Magalhaes labelled his Champions League final penalty miss as "painful", though he remains proud of what Arsenal accomplished this season.
The Premier League champions squandered a 1-0 lead against holders Paris Saint-Germain in Saturday's European showpiece, with a penalty shoot-out required to decide the outcome after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.
And, after Eberechi Eze and Nuno Mendes exchanged misses, Gabriel blazed over in a must-score situation to hand PSG their second successive continental crown.
The Brazilian became the first player to hit a penalty over the crossbar in a Champions League final shoot-out since 2005, when Serginho did so in AC Milan's loss to Liverpool.
Arsenal are also the only team to have hit two penalties off target in a Champions League final shoot-out, with Eze's kick missing to the left of the goal.
The Gunners' 226 European Cup/Champions League games played remain the most by any club to never lift the trophy, though Arsenal still celebrated their domestic title with a parade through north London on Sunday.
And ahead of that celebration, Gabriel took to social media to address his penalty miss and thank Arsenal's supporters.
"It's painful, but I'm proud of this team and everything we achieved together this season," Gabriel wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday.
"Thank you to our incredible fans for your support every step of the way. You deserve to celebrate this journey with us and enjoy the parade today! See you next season!"
Arsenal set a new record for the lowest possession share by any team in a Champions League final since Opta data tracking began in 2003-04, with a 24.7% share.
That is also their lowest possession share in any match under Mikel Arteta when they have kept 11 men on the pitch throughout.
The Gunners' only shot on target throughout 120 minutes was Kai Havertz's opening goal in the sixth minute, with PSG outshooting them by 21 attempts to seven.
Arsenal only completed 196 passes to PSG's 809, with Vitinha alone (141) completing almost as many as the Gunners' 10 outfield starters combined (148).
Declan Rice's 31 successful passes were the most of any Arsenal player, but that figure was bettered by nine of PSG's 10 outfield starters, with Ousmane Dembele (27) the only exception.

Stfu! We are't blaming anyone of us, it's a proper final decided by shootouts! It's all luck from there on! Inter lost 5-0 last season, they used the fire to win the league. It's football!

ya'll leave Eze alone, blame that useless Odegaard that blindfolded you from admitting a liability he is...Arterta liked Odegaard always but never stopped proving how useless he is, just imagine Odegaard instead of Eze or Merino...one fact that you won't understand,Gyokeres is also a flop...he's too dependent, lack skills...
