Garry Monk is set to become the next Sheffield Wednesday manager, with the former Leeds and Swansea boss finalising terms at the club on Friday.
A press conference is expected to be called at 4pm confirming Monk as Steve Bruce's replacement, who left in the summer to take charge of Newcastle United.
Monk has been without a managerial role since being sacked by Birmingham City in June following 15 months in charge.
He will take over from caretaker boss Lee Bullen who has guided the Owls to four wins from their first seven games that see them 11th in the table.
With a spell at Middlesbrough in between stints at Leeds and Birmingham, the former defender is now set to take charge of his fifth team in just five years — and his fourth second tier side in 30 months — having started his managerial career at Swansea in 2014.
Monk's first match in charge will be on September 15 against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

And they couldn't wait to get one born on Wednesday? What an incompetent board.

Don't think this is as bad of an appointment as people are making it out to be.

I mean I definitely don’t think it’ll get them relegated, but I really can’t see him having them fight for promotion either, maybe a playoff push at a stretch Seemingly did quite well at Birmingham even if it seems he still doesn’t know how to make effective subs

I don't think any manger would be able to get them out of the mess that they are in. Their squad is just not good enough.

Will be interesting if he takes Clotet from us (hopefully).

Wasn't Cowley at Lincoln interested in the Wednesday job? Surely he's a better shout than Monk?

He may be a bit young but I feel Garry Monk should be part of the Athletico Mince's British Managers' Destroy and Exit club.

Meh, kind of wanted the club to show some sort of long term plan and go all out for someone like Cowley. Could have been Pulis to be fair.
