Garry Monk is set to become the next Sheffield Wednesday manager, with the former Leeds and Swansea boss finalising terms at the club on Friday.

A press conference is expected to be called at 4pm confirming Monk as Steve Bruce's replacement, who left in the summer to take charge of Newcastle United.

Monk has been without a managerial role since being sacked by Birmingham City in June following 15 months in charge.

He will take over from caretaker boss Lee Bullen who has guided the Owls to four wins from their first seven games that see them 11th in the table.

With a spell at Middlesbrough in between stints at Leeds and Birmingham, the former defender is now set to take charge of his fifth team in just five years — and his fourth second tier side in 30 months — having started his managerial career at Swansea in 2014.

Monk's first match in charge will be on September 15 against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.
