Germany's World Cup departure after defeat by South Korea was greeted by shock by many, but pundits Gary Neville and Alan Shearer were quick to stick the boot in.
The reigning champions limped out of the tournament after failing to win on Wednesday, meaning Mexico progressed as runners-up in Group F despite being convincingly beaten by Sweden.
The Germans struggled in each of their group fixtures, and only managed to record their one and only victory courtesy of a very late, injury-time winner by Toni Kroos against Sweden.
After failing to impress and putting in a lacklustre and disjointed performance once more, pundits soon began giving scathing reviews of the way Germany conducted themselves in Russia.
'They've been poor but it's the manner of the exit and the things that have happened,' said former England international Neville in the ITV studio.
'You very much never see the Germans being called naive, they were counter-attacked on in every single game.
'You never see the Germans look like an inexperienced and naive team.'
Shearer, another former England regular, was equally as perplexed by the way Joachim Low's side set themselves up.
'I am not surprised after what I’ve seen from their last two games. They’ve been slow, leggy, no desire,' he said during punditry duties for the BBC.
'Today they didn’t have a plan a let alone a plan b. They deserve to go out. Germany were all over the place.
'They deserve it, they’ve been miles away. Even in their very first game against Mexico who Sweden have convincingly beaten.
'They were fortunate to get away with it in the second game.'

This pundits can be funny. They sometimes analyse soccer as if they have not played it before. If it is that easy, Neville should have a world cup medal. This are defending champions for crying out loud. And this occurrence had being the nightmare of defending champions in world cup for many years.Even if Germany did badly to deserve their fate, the record is vindicating them.

The downfall of Germany campaign in this world cup is their weak bundesliga with Bayern munic buying players from rival clubs and winning the league.....their is no competition

The key word in both statements is -- "no desire" it's exactly what I saw as well.... Until they reached a point where they were in fear of being eliminated, the team had no desire to win.... maybe it's because this team has already won a world cup but there was no inspiration.

German football has been going backwards last two seasons, anyone who's watched bundesliga & a host of the german players Low took in other leagues this season are not surprised by this in the slightest.

Germany didnt hit any form this tournament after sailing thru qualifying campaign.. big surprisr. But then Italy, Holland, USA and our home nations didnt even make it either. England will be home next game or two as will France, Portugal, Argentina. Croatia and Brazil are the teams to go far.. and Spain and Uruguay wont be far away.

Only worrying thing is that it's known that Klopp is a possibility for the German manager. I don't think he'll go, but it's a bit of a concern. YNWA

An overhaul is needed. A common trend in this team in all 3 games is they simply did not want to defend. No tracking back. No busting a gut. Nothing. Attack is good but defence wins you championships. Furthermore it would've been unfair for Mexico to crash out so really happy Germany are swimming in tears instead

They are pundits who've won everything. Errrr...except the tournament they are somehow experts at. Lmao.

Didn't all the pundits put their money on Germany despite their poor showing, talking about 'historically', like those same players are still playing today.

Germany was quite iffy in their friendly matches ahead of this tournament, but there was a general belief that they would get it right when the tournament actually begins.
but that actually didn't happen. I also had the view that they ll pass through but they sre beaten.convincingly

If Lampards goal has been given in 2010, that weird manager would have been sacked then.

Never agreed with that, defending champions have been finding it difficult to defend world cup titles since the past 4 tournaments now. In fact, they all crashed out at group stage. Everyone want to beat the title holders.

Very rich coming from the brains behind the Iceland result in 2016. Nevertheless I do agree with him.
