It's been an eventful summer for Gennaro Gattuso, having stepped down from his position of head coach at Napoli, agreeing to take over at Fiorentina before the agreement was rescinded two weeks before his contract was set to start, and then was pressured out of the Tottenham job by fans.
Gattuso at one point seemed the favourite to take the Tottenham coaching role, yet fans of the North London club started #NoToGattuso hashtags on social media.
Supporters recalled up a heated incident between the former midfielder and then Spurs assistant Joe Jordan from the 2011 Champions League encounter against Milan.
"I don't even want to talk about that. It's useless to add more details, I've already forgotten it," Gattuso told 'Il Messaggero' about his short-lived spell at Fiorentina.
"On the other hand, I cannot do the same with the other one," he said about the frustration of not being able to join Spurs.
"It was a great disappointment. They did not describe me as I am and there was nothing I could do. I regret not being able to defend myself because I am not the person they were talking about in England," said the former Milan player.
"Certain malice comes from Facebook and Twitter, where it is possible to unleash any falsehood. I do not have profiles on the networks and I do not want to.
"I had to accept a story that hurts more than any defeat or dismissal. We cannot understand how dangerous the internet can be," Gattuso said.
