Gavi is back to the pitch for Barcelona almost one year after ACL injury

Barcelona midfielder Pablo Páez Gavira, better known as Gavi, is back to the pitch at the 83th minute during the LaLiga match against Sevilla and Pedri gives him the captain's armband as he comes onto the pitch. Gavi returns to a team that has undergone quite the transformation during his eleven-month absence.

The 20-year-old from Andalusia suffered a complete tear of his ACL and a related injury to his external meniscus on November 19, 2023, during a match between Spain and Georgia at the José Zorrilla Stadium in Valladolid. This was the first serious injury in Gavi’s young career. He made his first-team debut for Barcelona at just 17 years and 24 days under Ronald Koeman on August 29, 2021, in a 2-1 win against Getafe, and has since become a key player in the squad.

Gavi is set to return just in time for a pivotal week that could define Barça’s momentum this season, with matches against Bayern Munich on October 23 and Real Madrid on the 26th.
