Gerard Pique has accidentally spoiled Bojan Krkic's retirement plans, leaking that the Spaniard will be announcing his retirement at the Nou Camp.
Speaking on a live Twitch stream, the former centre-half let slip that his former Barcelona team-mate will be hanging up his boots from professional football at the stadium of his old club on Thursday.
Bojan - who was once compared to Lionel Messi as an upcoming star in the Barcelona academy - last played for Vissel Kobe alongside another former team-mate in Andres Iniesta.
However, he finds himself without a club and according to Pique intends to call time on a football career that began with Barcelona in 2005.
In conversation with long-time friend and business partner Ibai Llanos on Twitch, Pique made the blunder, before a look of shock told viewers he had quickly realised his error.
'Bojan is retiring, he will say goodbye on Thursday, at the Nou Camp,' he claimed.
Llanos - with a shocked expression - then asked whether the news was true.
Bojan became something of a journeyman player after leaving Barca, and played for 10 clubs in his career from seven different nations.
But despite bursting onto the scene under Frank Rijkaard at the Nou Camp, the Spanish international seemingly found it hard to maintain form under the intense pressure that players at the highest level are subjected to.
Barca starlet Ansu Fati has come in for criticism due to a number of poor performances this season, but Bojan admitted in February that he underwent similar issues.
'There is a huge difference in treatment between the illusion that is generated at first, when all things go head-on, with respect to the moments in which the things go awry, due to injury or for any other reason,' he said.
'You go from being a person to being a character. When I was 17 years old, I had to compete against the label of the "new Messi".
'Learn to get away from these external labels and to be aware of what your limits are and to accept them.
'It is difficult to manage it. The good thing about you at that moment is that you are not aware of what you are generating.
'You are fulfilling a childhood dream. I was not aware of the magnitude of that scenario that I was entering at the age of 17.'
Bojan became the first Spanish player to score in four of the five top leagues in Europe, having featured for each of Barca, Inter Milan, Roma, Mainz and Stoke.
As well as that, he counts on his CV stints at CF Montreal, Ajax, Vissel Kobe and Alaves in addition to a single cap for the Spanish national side.
Should the player announce his retirement on Thursday as per Pique, he will do so with an impressive trophy cabinet including two Champions Leagues, three LaLigas, a Club World Cup, an Eredivisie medal, Canadian Cup, Copa Del Rey, UEFA Supercup.
