Graeme Souness says it's 'this year or never' for Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Graeme Souness says that it is 'this year or never' for Harry Kane to decide whether he wants to leave Tottenham as speculation surrounds his future.

The England international scored a brace as his side were left disappointed in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

Despite his fantastic goalscoring record for the club, he has yet to win a trophy and there has been talk he could eventually look to move on in order to improve his chance of winning trophies.

Sky Sports pundit Souness said that the likes of Real Madrid or Manchester City could come calling for him in the future.

He said: 'The two prizes that are out there are (Erling) Haaland and Kane. Haaland is still a question mark but it gets smaller each week.

'With Harry there is no question mark, we know what we're getting. Everything about him about him is a pleasure to watch from trying to get the ball back to delivering cute and clever passes, to getting shots off when you don't think he's getting shots off, to being so accurate when he does shoot.

'I think with Harry it's this year or never for him. If he's thinking about going, and if he decides to extend his contract he won't be going getting a big move after that.'

When former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson suggested Kane could cost £200m, Souness said that it wasn't an outrageous fee if it included add-ons.

He added: 'Who can afford it, we know with Covid it's been difficult for even the big clubs. But obvious candidates are PSG and Man City.

'I don't think Pep's being entirely honest when he says they won't go big this year, I think they will. When you spend big money there's always a question mark, with Harry there aren't any, you only have to keep him fit.'

Dawson stated that he could get his hands on the Carabao Cup as they play Manchester City in the final, while Champions League qualification could be a 'deciding point'.

He added: 'Harry's that kind of loyal guy, only he will know this. He's a Spurs legend as it is but he might want to break all records.

Souness responded: 'It's challenging yourself and going to play for the biggest club in the world.

'You've got a better chance of winning the league and Madrid than you have at Spurs in the foreseeable future, and the Champions League.

'Personally I wanted to win the big trophies again and again and again. Is Harry going to be happy with one League Cup?'

Kane's brace against Newcastle saw him break a Premier League record for most away goals by any player for one club since its inception.

He's the top scorer this season and is now joint eighth on the list of all time Premier League goalscorers with Jermain Defoe on 162.
