Grealish: Bernardo and Ruben have been betting on how many fouls he wins

Bernardo Silva has revealed that he and Ruben Dias enjoyed a wager on the number of times their Manchester City team-mate Jack Grealish would be fouled for England at the weekend.

Grealish came off the bench for the final 25 minutes of England's 3-0 win over Senegal on Sunday, helping the Three Lions see out a dominant performance and reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

Should they emerge victorious from their last-eight tie against France on Saturday, Gareth Southgate's men may set up a semi-final showdown with Portugal if the latter see off Morocco.

And ahead of their potential meeting, Silva says he has been keeping in touch with Grealish, having placed a bet with Dias on the amount of fouls he would draw against Senegal.

'I keep sending messages to Jack,' the Portugal midfielder said this week.

'I told him when he came on against Senegal, I was filming Ruben Dias and asked, "How many fouls do you think Jack Grealish is going to win in these 25 minutes?"

'Ruben said nine, I said seven, I was closer as he didn’t win that many.'

Grealish is yet to start for England at this year's World Cup, but the City winger has made it off the bench in each of their four outings so far.

Those four outings have brought three wins, as many clean sheets and progression to the quarter-finals, where they must get past a France side containing one of the world's best players in Kylian Mbappe.

As for Portugal, they offered an exciting glimpse into the future by dismantling Switzerland 6-1 without Cristiano Ronaldo, and must now navigate their way through a tricky tie against Morocco.

Whatever happens, Silva is desperate not to reunite with Grealish in the semi-final of the tournament.

'I’m very happy for Jack and for Phil Foden as well, all City’s England players, they’ve been doing well,' he added.

'I wish them all the best but I honestly don’t want to play against them in the semi-final.'
