Jack Grealish has told Aston Villa he will never sign another contract with them after they dashed his Champions League dreams and left him heartbroken.
Grealish expected to land a lucrative switch to Tottenham this summer, allowing him to compete with the cream of Europe as they have already qualified for the group stages that begin next month.
Spurs registered their strong interest soon after Villa lost the Championship play-off final to Fulham in late May.
Villa’s chairman at the time, Dr Tony Xia, promised Grealish he would sell him to help bring vital funds into the crisis club.
But the Midlands club's post-Wembley cash nightmare has since been transformed with the takeover by billionaire duo Nasser Sawiris and Wes Edens.
Those two have rejected two bids from Tottenham for Grealish, the latest for up to £25million, and told the talented midfielder he is going nowhere.
That has dismayed the 22-year-old, whose head had been turned by the lure of the Champions League and working with Mauricio Pochettino’s star-studded squad.
Grealish believed he could use the platform of playing for Spurs to push for a full England call-up that would see him working with Harry Kane and Dele Alli for both club and country.
Tottenham were also offering a five-year deal with a major raise on his current £20,000-a-week deal, which has two years left to run.
Villa have pledged to give Grealish a new deal to ease the pain, but Mirror Sport has been assured he is in no mood to re-sign and would prefer to let his current terms run down.
Grealish, a Villa fan and ex-trainee, is not about to slap in a transfer request or refuse to play after starring for them on Monday night in the win at Hull, but his camp feel badly let down.
Boss Steve Bruce now faces a major challenge to lift his star man and get him back in the mood ahead of Saturday’s home game against Wigan.
