Pep Guardiola reportedly hailed his troops as the best team in Premier League history following their Manchester derby win.
Manchester City will wrap up back-to-back titles if they win their three remaining fixtures against Burnley , Leicester and Brighton .
Guardiola's men leapfrogged Liverpool to the top of the table after second-half goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane saw City record a comfortable victory at Old Trafford.
Manchester United's treble-winning side in 1999, which included Ole Gunnar Solskajer, and Arsenal's Invincibles are widely regarded as two of the greatest teams in the Premier League era.
But The Sun claim Guardiola told his players in the dressing room after Wednesday night's game: “That is why you're the best team this league has ever seen.”
It is reported the City players then started singing the name of Sane, who clinched victory over their rivals.
City are one point clear of Liverpool, who can return to the summit with victory over Huddersfield on Friday night.
"Liverpool I don't think are going to drop too many points, but it's in our hands," Guardiola said.
"Three games, we won the last 11. It's incredible what these players have done so far, but still we have a job to do.
"If that victory happened in November, December or January we would celebrate it more, enjoy it more. Maybe tonight we can enjoy it, but tomorrow it's over, it's gone, so you have to be focused, so focused."
There is no let-up for City, who travel to Burnley on Sunday with every game a must-win.
"I know the people are going to talk about how beautiful we are, how handsome we are, like this, like that, but now we have to go to Burnley," Guardiola added.
"In my two previous seasons going to Burnley was incredibly tough, so we have to be focused, because Burnley is always a tough, tough game to play.
"But we're fortunate that it's in our hands so we depend on our own performances - if we win our last three games, we are champions and that is what we're going to try to do."

First of all if someone will spen more than billions in signing players in next year in Huddersfield even they will compete for UCL just like Man City were mid table team before all the money In our side we have many players from academy,Gary Neville,Scholes,Behkam,Giggs,Phil Neville,Nicky Butt, wes Brown Best team in Pl history ,could not even reach UCL semis, they might be best team now but no comparison to trebble winning side, Let's compare GK Peter Smeichel>>Ederson CB Jaap Stam>>>better than any CB Man city have got Gary Neville,Denis Irwin>>walker,Mendy Roy Keane,Paul Scholes,David Bechkam,Ryan Giggs>>De bryune,D silva,B silva,Fernandinho Probably oy Aguero or De bryune,Kompany(of prime not current) could get into that squad,Media always tries to hype current team but our treble winning side was one of the best team along with Ancelotti's Milan,Guardiola's Barca,or Arsenal's Invincible Don't forget Man City got easy Fixtures in FA Cup,EFL cup and Ucl,in UCL only decent side the face was Spurs, last year only devent team they face was Liverpool, the didn't face a top 6 team in Cup games, and they even didn't won the FA cup yet

guardiola's success at man city lies not in individual players, it lies in the team and that is what makes great managers. the costliest player man city ever bought is mahrez and for how much. every serious team tries to replace the old and tired players. I think that was what guardiola did. the man city machine was old and rusty (Clichy, Zabaleta etc); he replaced the worn parts and got it working again. I bet that if it's about splashing the cash, Sanchez, Alves and Fred will both be plying their trade across the blue side of Manchester. it takes a good manager to assemble 'average' players and turn them into champions. pls note: guardiola spent all the money not because he bought the best players in their positions but because he needed to replace many players and now he has got them playing the way he likes. the best way to judge a player's improvement will be whether his value has risen since he was bought; or whether his value has dropped. for me most of man city players will double if not triple their cost price - that is the mark of great coach. the only other team in EPL right whose players values can compete with man city's will be Liverpool because the coach has got them firing. Klopp is another good coach in EPL & he spent money too.

They are strong coz they have $$. Management supporting who to buy and who to sell. New manager came in choose his players easily, players not in team then they go to market and get them just like that.

there are many parameters by which greatness an be assessed. just as man utd remains the greatest when number of titles won are counted, man city remains the greatest for total points in a season, most goals scored, most consecutive wins, most points gap for winning a league. tell me what about those isn't great. arsenal's invincibles are mostly remembered for that unbeaten run even though the points garnered then cannot compare to points man city has this season having lost four games. by next season we will find out how much man utd have spent because it seems to me that they need to change all their players.
