Gyokeres to Arsenal stalls as 'resisted' request sparks fresh disagreement

Arsenal are hoping to wrap up a deal for striker Viktor Gyokeres in the coming days, but Sporting Lisbon are continuing to play hardball over the former Coventry star

Arsenal's move for Viktor Gyokeres appears to have hit a minor stumbling block, with reports from Portugal claiming there is a disagreement over add-ons. The Gunners have been chasing the striker all summer, but Sporting Lisbon's demands had proved a sticking point.

Arsenal are desperate to add some firepower to their squad and Gyokeres fits the bill, having netted 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions since joining Sporting from Coventry back in 2023.

Gyokeres has made it clear he wants to join Arsenal and Mirror Football understands that the Gunners have made an improved offer that will see the player's agent receive a vastly reduced fee.

Although Arsenal are now close to getting the deal over the line, and the transfer is still widely expected to be done, Portuguese outlet Record are reporting that the two clubs are at odds over the add-ons. It is claimed that Sporting want the add-ons to 'be easily achieved', but Arsenal are 'resisting this request'.

The Gunners have already made three signings this summer, forking out around £70million on midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalga.

Arsenal are also closing in on deals for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera. Madueke missed Chelsea's Club World Cup final win after flying back to the UK to complete his move to Arsenal.

And Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has essentially confirmed the £52m transfer already, stating: "At the end, if players want to leave, it's difficult for the club and the manager. Noni decided to leave. No one said to Noni he has to leave.

"If he is happy, we are happy. Noni is in contact with the new club and I guess he is going to be [announced] in the next hours."

Arsenal are now pushing to sign Mosquera for around £20m and have already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old, who will provide extra competition and support at the back after Takehiro Tomiyasu's contract was terminated a year early.

Mosquera has spent most of his career playing as a centre-back, but also featured as a right-back on occasion for Valencia last season. If Arsenal do wrap up deals for Gyokeres, Madueke and Mosquera then it will take their spending past the £200m mark.
