This was the first game for Spezia since the club was sold to American businessman Robert Platek on Thursday and they had some excellent recent results, including wins away to Sassuolo and Napoli. M’Bala Nzola, Roberto Piccoli, Claudio Terzi, Diego Farias and Salva Ferrer remained out of action, while the Rossoneri had Davide Calabria suspended, Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic injured, but Ismael Bennacer, Simon Kjaer and Hakan Calhanoglu returned to the starting XI.
Kevin Agudelo remained as a False 9 and dribbled into the box for Gianluigi Donnarumma to smother at his feet, but the goalkeeper performed a stunning reaction save to push Riccardo Saponara’s rocket out from under the bar.
After a very strong Spezia start, Milan settled with Theo Hernandez and Alessio Romagnoli free kicks wide, but the hosts remained dangerous and Romagnoli had to make a crucial block on Nahuel Estevez.
