Haaland not spotted in Man City training ahead of Liverpool clash

Erling Haaland was a notable absentee from Manchester City's training session on Thursday.

The Norwegian striker has been in prolific form for City this term, bagging 42 goals in just 37 appearances since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.

However his involvement this weekend is in doubt due to a groin injury picked up in the 6-0 FA Cup victory over Burnley.

As a result, Haaland didn't travel to join his international teammates with Norway as he nursed his injury in the hope of being fit for the crunch clash with Liverpool on Saturday – a game that is live on talkSPORT.

However with no sign of the striker in City training, it puts his involvement in serious doubt.

While the exact nature of his injury isn't known, his father, Alfie Haaland, did give an update on his condition to Norway's TV2 that may concern City fans.

He said: “Manchester City has a partnership with a hospital in Barcelona so he has been there for further checks and treatment,”

“Now he has been here [Marbella] for a couple of days with the physio from the club.

“Firstly, I'm not a doctor and secondly, I think it's 'touch and go', yes. You can't just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight. There must be a progression there.

“They can gamble on it, but if he doesn't get proper training with the team, then he won't play. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days.

“He needs a lot of care and 'knuckling'. There are many sprints and there is a lot to move.”
