Harry Kane is set to come up against Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday evening and the Bayern Munich striker is hoping to make the Blues pay
Harry Kane is relishing the prospect of facing hostility from Chelsea supporters as the Bayern Munich striker gears up to take on the Blues on Wednesday night.
Chelsea kick off their Champions League campaign at the Allianz Arena in one of this week's most eagerly awaited clashes. Kane, who has netted 19 goals and registered six assists in 25 Champions League outings for Bayern, is determined to punish Chelsea once more, with the England skipper having found the net eight times in 22 encounters across all competitions against the Blues.
The 32-year-old is hoping to add to that record as he seeks to inflict further misery on Chelsea. "I think the rivalry was a good rivalry we had, especially early on in my Tottenham career, the [Mauricio] Pochettino era," Kane said on Tuesday afternoon. "We had a lot of tough games, good games against each other.
"I think playing against a Premier League opposition there's always maybe a little bit more expectation around the game. Obviously, maybe the Chelsea fans don't like me as much, and obviously Arsenal fans don't like me as much. But that makes me want to play better, that motivates me..
"There's going to be some familiar faces that I've played against, some that I've played with with England. All those things added, it just brings a little something special around the game. I think being at the Allianz, having an English team here, as a team we like to try and stamp our authority on the game, and we'll try and do that tomorrow. But like I said earlier, we're playing against a very good side, so we have to be at 100 per cent."
Kane's new teammate Nicolas Jackson could face the Blues in unusual circumstances. The striker, 24, was signed on loan by Bayern on transfer deadline day but as per UEFA rules, he is eligible to take on his parent club on Wednesday evening.
Jackson has impressed Kane thus far during their short time in the same group, but the England striker has admitted the Senegal international is still adapting to life in Munich.
"Yeah, he's been great so far, I think," Kane said on Jackson. "It was good for him to get 45 minutes on the weekend [against Hamburg]. I thought he looked sharp, I thought he had a couple of half chances there. In training, he's looked really good.
"It's not easy coming into a team like us when we're so well-drilled, I guess, over the last kind of year and a bit with the coach and the way we press and the way we like to play and the connections. You know, he's still learning that aspect of it, but as I said after the game, he shows a lot of qualities. He physically is very strong and fast.
"And for sure, if he plays tomorrow, he'll be eager to impress, he'll be eager to get his first buy-in unit goal. But I don't want to put too much pressure on him too soon. He knows he's working his way into the team and the way we like to play. All I can say is, so far, he's had a great attitude and the willingness to learn is the most important thing."
