Harry Maguire has explained the meaning behind the Tweet that left fans confused following Manchester United's 4-2 victory over Leeds on Sunday.

Maguire - who scored United's opening goal - posted an image of himself celebrating in front of the Leeds supporters at Elland Road.

However, the England international Photoshopped the face of a mystery man into the picture - leaving his 1.8 million followers confused as to what the defender was getting at.

One fan posted the unedited image on social media and said: 'Here's the original picture, I have so many questions.' Another added: 'Weird photoshop on this.'

While one supporter simply commented saying: 'Who is this man?'. Another asked: 'Is there a satisfactory explanation for Harry Maguire's photoshopping in the head of a Leeds fan on his social media post?'.

Maguire has finally put the Manchester United faithful out of their misery and explained the reason behind his Photoshopped post.

He said that the man superimposed into the picture was not only a Leeds supporter, but a good friend of his.

Maguire said that he posted the picture as payback for the stick his friend had been giving him prior to the game.

Maguire explained on Twitter: 'For everyone asking, it's my good mate, a big Leeds fan. He was at the ground but not in the pic. He's been giving us some stick all week so thought I'd add him in.'

Maguire used the post to not only rub in the fact he had scored against his mate's team but the fact Manchester United had won 4-2.

Manchester United secured their victory thanks to goals from Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Anthony Elanga.

Leeds did, however, make it onto the scoresheet thanks to strikes from Rodrigo and Raphinha.
