Manchester United supporters have praised Harry Maguire for his 'professional approach' to losing the club captaincy.
Maguire revealed that United manager Erik ten Hag has elected to take the armband away from him.
The centre-back joined United from Leicester in 2019 and was appointed club captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2020.
However, he is no longer a regular starter for United.
'After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain,' Maguire wrote on Twitter. 'He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.
'So I wanted to say a massive thank you to the Manchester United fans for all their brilliant support whilst I’ve been wearing the armband.
'Since the day I took on the role, three and half years ago, it’s been a huge privilege to lead Manchester United and one of the proudest moments of my career to date. It’s one of the greatest honours in club football.
'I’ve done everything I possibly could to help United be successful - on and off the field. I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for first giving me the responsibility and I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support.'
Many United fans felt that Maguire dealt with the situation in a very mature way.
One United fan wrote on Instagram: 'Very mature response, good on him.'
Another commented on Maguire's professionalism. They wrote: 'Fair play to him, he's been utterly professional throughout'.
One fan stated that ten Hag's ruthlessness was necessary. They wrote: Professional from him... ruthless from ETH which was needed.'
Another fan wished Maguire good luck with what is next for him. They wrote: 'Good luck Harry whether it's here or elsewhere, still a red for now'.
In addition, another fan says that is a clear sign that Maguire doesn't have a future at United, writing: 'Got to lift a trophy as a captain. It's time to move on for the betterment of his career. This decision from ETH is clear that Maguire won't be a main starter next season.'
One fan praised Maguire's work ethic. They wrote: 'I respect his work ethic and and professional attitude despite being memed by your own fans. Good luck wherever you go mate.'
Furthermore, one fan said that Maguire handled the situation 'perfectly'. They wrote: 'Fair play he's handled that perfectly. Hopefully he can go to have a good career.'
Another fan wrote: 'Took it like a champ'.

Maquire is overrated and he’s politically rated by vass amount of people that’s from England because he’s a English man who captained the national team..
