Harry and Jamie Redknapp offer Frank Lampard Chelsea advice ahead of Real Madrid match

Harry and Jamie Redknapp have delivered their verdicts on Frank Lampard's return to Chelsea after the Blues fell to a disappointing defeat against Wolves.

Matheus Nunes netted the only goal of the game to dampen the spirits upon Lampard's return, with a huge clash against Real Madrid coming next.

The 44-year-old was named as Graham Potter's short-term successor, being given the title of Caretaker Manager at Chelsea just two years after he departed under the previous owners.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Lampard's uncle Harry and cousin Jamie jumped to his defence, stating that he 'had no chance' against Wolves.

Harry said: 'They were poor! I’ve watched the game here, and it was a disappointing first half – they were awful.

'But what can you do, he’s had no chance to work with them players, he’s been there two days, so the players have to look at themselves.

'You look at that group of players, they should never be losing, week in week out like they have done. Or lose too many games to be in the top four.'

The former Spurs boss continued to offer a word of advice to his nephew as he offered a potential solution to Chelsea's woes as they face European Champions Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

'I think they’re perfectly [set] to set-up three up the back [great] wing backs Chillwell and James, you’ve got centre halves galore,' he said. 'I think they’re well set-up to play that way, because they’ve got to make sure they stay in the game first and foremost and give themselves a chance when they go back to Stamford Bridge.

'Stay in the game. If you get beat by the odd goal, you’re in the game. Don’t go over there and get hammered. Make it tight, keep it tight, be difficult to beat.

'What a great game to have. Everyone expects them to lose, Chelsea have got a big chance.'

Jamie Redknapp, on the other hand, believes that Chelsea and Lampard must focus on the other end of the pitch and look to sure up their defence in midweek.

He said: 'The most important thing when you go to the Bernabeu is not not scoring goals, but not conceding, and give yourself a chance when you get them back in the second leg.'

The pundit finalised by advising his cousin Lampard to figure out which players will feature in his best side as Chelsea look to progress to the Champions League semi-final this season.

'You’ve got to look at it now, get your best squad, best team. Look at a couple of players that he left out, Chillwell I’m sure will start on Wednesday.'

The Blues currently sit 11th in the Premier League table, and while they are unlikely to be dragged into the relegation battle, they will not make the top four - so the Champions League is Lampard's only chance for success this season.
