Jordan Henderson could make his Ajax debut on Sunday as the England midfielder closes in on a move to Holland after ending his stint in Saudi Arabia.
The Dutch club want Henderson, 33, to feature in their clash with RKC Waalwijk under the roof at the Amsterdam Arena this weekend. On Wednesday Henderson’s team were thrashing out the final details with Ajax officials in Manchester to complete the switch from Saudi side Al-Ettifaq.
The former Liverpool midfielder is expected to sign an 18-month deal with the option of a further year. Henderson will fly to Amsterdam to undergo a medical in the next 48 hours to ensure he’s ready to play this weekend.
The ex-Kop captain terminated his contract with Al-Ettifaq this week after making it clear he wants to return to Europe. It brought an end to a shambolic six-month stay in the Middle East and he leaves Steven Gerrard ’s side eighth in the Saudi Pro League and without a win since October.
The England international left Liverpool in the summer after 12 years at the club when they accepted a £12m bid. Henderson will face financial penalties for terminating the three-year deal worth around £350,000-a-week early which could also lead to hefty tax bill.
He will also take a huge pay cut to sign an 18-month deal with the Dutch club. But Henderson believes it is a price worth paying to ensure he returns to football in Europe.
Ajax are currently struggling in the Eredivisie as they sit fifth, a massive 23 points off leaders PSV who hold a 100 per cent winning record after 17 games. But the Dutch club believe the acquisition of Henderson could help them push for a Champions League spot as they are nine points behind third-placed Twente.

Some players play for flash cars fancy watches an expensive gifts. Some players love the thrill of the game in packed stadiums with amazing atmospheres. If he was that bad of a personal player, then no team in Europe would want him and he’d have to stay in Saudi Arabia, And act, like it’s the best thing ever. does that sound familiar?🧐🥹🤣

Just people crying foul about Saudi league is about money. ManUtd signed Anthony for 82 million pounds and he is on a salary of 10,400,000 million pounds a year for 5 years contract. I guess players are paid in sand in Europe not currency. Saudi are only signing these players on free transfers and giving them big wages.
