Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has branded Roberto Firmino as "extraordinary" after the Brazil striker made Premier League history on Saturday.

The No.9's goal in the 3-0 win at Burnley took him to 50 in England's top flight since he joined from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 and Firmino was again instrumental in the Reds' success, also claiming an assist for Sadio Mane.

Firmino has hit the ground running this season, showing no signs of fatigue, despite playing for Brazil during their successful Copa America tournament in the summer, and Henderson was full of praise for his team-mate after the win at Turf Moor.

"He's a massive player for us as many people will know for sure," said Henderson.

"It's extraordinary what he does for the team, defensively, goals, assists, everything, his link-up play. What a player he is. He's on fire at the minute, so hopefully he can keep going.

"He's the first Brazilian to 50 and hopefully there are many more to come from him."

He added: "Again for us, it's game by game. We come up against different tests each week and it's about giving everything every time we go onto the football pitch and we will see where we are at the end of the season.

"For me it's just about concentrating on what we need to do. We have been very mature in our performances, especially away from home.

"We want to continue that form, keep doing the right things, keep working hard as a team. If we do that, we can put on performances like that.

"We're not setting [standards] for anyone else, we're setting them for ourselves. That's what we want to do.

"We want to win every week, we want to perform every week and that's difficult because there are so many good sides in the Premier League and in Europe. It's really hard.

"After the international break, the games come thick and fast. In the last couple of weeks, we've had a week building up to the games, which has helped us on the grass. We will need the full squad to be ready when we come back."

The Liverpool captain also batted away suggestions that fatigue could come into play for the Reds after an energy-sapping summer for players such as Mane, Salah and Firmino, who were all involved in international competitions.

"I don't feel as though it's big problem," said Henderson.

"Our next game is the Newcastle game and it will disrupt it a little bit, but we've had these situations before, we're used to it, so there's no excuse.

"We'll be ready when we come back to face Newcastle, which I'm sure will be another difficult game for us."
