Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has lauded praise on former team-mate Luis Suarez and described a moment he called 'frightening'.

The pair played together for three seasons where they came within a whisker of winning the Premier League title in the 2013-14 season.

Suarez was Liverpool's star man during this period and his performances led to the interest and eventual move to Barcelona.

Henderson had plenty of praise for his former team-mate as he talked to Rio Ferdinand on The Locker Room, and told the the former England defender about a time when Suarez's foot was so swollen he had to wear then captain Steven Gerrard's boots.

He said: 'Suarez was a winner, a born winner. Even when he was injured he would play.

'He was never in the treatment room, he just had that mentality of love playing football, always wanted to play no matter whether he was injured. His mentality was so good.

'He had to change his boots because his foot was so swollen he couldn't get his boot on, so he wore Stevie's boots for one game and scored a worldie of a free-kick.

'I just thought 'wow,' this guy is just something else, it was just frightening.'

During a three and a half year spell at Anfield, Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 games.

Despite his praise of Suarez, the pair had a bust up which Jamie Carragher pinpointed as 'turning point' in Henderson's Liverpool career.

It came after Henderson had initially struggled to adapt to life at Liverpool after completing a £20m move from Sunderland in 2011.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: 'He (Henderson) did an interview with me about six months ago where he spoke about the reaction or the little bit of a bust-up he had with Luis Suarez (in his first season), because he was finding it really tough to almost be accepted in some ways by certain players in the dressing room, whether he was good enough.

'He had a little bit of a bust up, not a major one, with Suarez, a few words were exchanged in training and I thought: 'Oh yeah, I like that'.

'Because Suarez was our best player at the time, him and Stevie Gerrard, Luis was getting frustrated with a pass he gave him or something, and for him to stand up as a young kid at 20 or 21 it just shows how much it meant to him.'
