Jordan Henderson has called for perspective and insisted Liverpool's first defeat of the season will not lead to a collapse in results.
Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to four points following Manchester City's 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium but Henderson believes the performance Jurgen Klopp's side produced was far more revealing.
Henderson knows from experience what it is like to be in the thick of a title challenge and Liverpool's captain has not forgotten what happened five years ago, when a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea in the final weeks was followed by a calamitous 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace.
Many critics believe Liverpool will start to wobble now that City have got to within touching distance but Henderson is confident they will produce a response similar to last season's champions, who roared back after losing 4-3 at Anfield to take 22 points from next 24 that were available.
'There is no need to get carried away,' said Henderson. 'All season, we have taken it game by game and we will do that again. It is normal to be disappointed by a defeat. Now it is about reaction and I am sure the lads will react in the right way.
'Why would you lose confidence after a game like that? It could have been different. In terms of the result, we are disappointed. We were beaten by a very good City team but there were still moments in the game where we could have scored one or two more. We just have to accept the defeat.
'We created chances - a big one in the first half and a few in the second - and things could have been different with a little bit of luck. That is how football is sometimes. We have to move quickly. It is all about the reaction now and we have to react in the next game.'
There was always going to be a point where Liverpool hit a bump in the road after starting with a 20-game unbeaten run - and the Etihad Stadium was the most likely venue. There was nothing to suggest, though, that Jurgen Klopp's side suddenly appear vulnerable.
'I am confident we can bounce back,' said Henderson. 'There were moments in the game where we had the momentum, but unfortunately we got done with the second goal. Overall, we must keep our heads high. The lads have been brilliant all season and need to take it forward.
'I felt second half we stayed in the game and there were periods we were keeping it around their box but City are a good side and they are always going to create chances. With a little bit of luck it could have been different but we will keep going.'

Henderson is a "proper captain" in Klopp's own words. We the fans may not realise how valuable he is to the team but Klopp does and i think the only person whose judgement of Henderson is important here is Klopp himself. And for the record, i strongly believe we could have won the league in 2014 if henderson did not pick that red card against City. He is not flashy but he sure does the work. Except u know better than Klopp in which case u will have to tell me the team you have managed and your records...YNWA

disappointment not for losing, losing in the manner in which Liverpool did last night isn't a disgrace. disappointed because with a bit of luck may be results could have gone the other way.. still, the team played well. it would have been a catastrophe if City lost, and they probably wanted to win it more than Liverpool. they were hanging in there towards the end..

Why do Liverpool midfielders play defensive through out. Non of them give an accurate pass apart from Fabinho. unfortunately Klopp does not want to play Fabinho from the start. Milner has just been on injury,,why risk play him when he is off form. Klopp messed up with the line-up. Train the mid fielders to pass balls in front accurately. Substitute Mane' always early coz he is lazy and not aggressive.
