Robert Lewandowski told Thierry Henry it feels 'something special' to be crowned FIFA's Best Men's Player for 2020 in the era of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi following a surprise video call from the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker.

Lewandowski enjoyed an historic treble-winning season with Bayern Munich, lifting the Bundesliga, German Cup and the Champions League.

So impressive was his 2019-20 campaign, Lewandowski was the unanimous pick for FIFA's top prize and Henry was full of compliments to the Polish international for finishing 'in front of the two monsters'.

'First and foremost congratulations, I think it's well deserved,' Henry said.

'You were outstanding, you've been outstanding for a long time and to be able to finish in front of the two monsters you have to do something special.

'I couldn't do it myself, so you've won something I never won. I respect that and you've been brilliant for a very long time so well done.'

Lewandowski, still in his suit and holding his latest trophy, was humbled by Henry's kind words.

'It was a very difficult season and a very difficult year but after lockdown we knew we had the chance to win the Champions League and to win everything,' he said.

'Nobody could compare with us. We were on fire. We were the team who wanted to be the best and wanted to stay on top. In an era with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win a trophy like that is something special.'
