According to Marca, Herrera, Real Zaragoza midfielder and former Manchester United player, recently discussed Manchester City's punishment on a podcast, stating that he believes it was remarkable for Mourinho to achieve a second-place finish in the Premier League with Manchester United given these circumstances.

Yangel Herrera, currently playing for Real Zaragoza, spoke on Mario Suarez's podcast about Manchester City's alleged violations of as many as 115 financial rules and the club's pending official punishment.

The midfielder, who played for Manchester United from 2014 to 2019, took a strong stance. "What happened back then was not normal, and everyone could see it. Rules must be followed. They don't have a huge fanbase... yet they spend money as if they do..." the Basque player said.

He then focused on the players and coaches who have been with the club over the years. "I have nothing against the players and coaches; they put in all the effort for everything they achieved. But if I were a player, I would be angry with those in power because they tainted everything that was accomplished over the years," he added.

As the conversation deepened, he stated that this incident caused "irreparable damage" and mentioned clubs that might have been affected by it in the past. "Tottenham Hotspur was fifth for many years and didn't make it to the Champions League, which has financial implications... As Rooney said, this should set a precedent, deterring those who think, 'I'm going to artificially inflate my financial figures'," he explained.

Herrera also stated that Manchester United could have won the Premier League if Manchester City had been stripped of their titles. "A Premier League title would change everything. Mourinho said that year the runner-up position was also significant... He is indeed a master, never saying useless things. He's like 'The Simpsons,' always predicting what will happen, and he knew what was happening at the time," he concluded.
