Liverpool's last league winning manager Kenny Dalglish was reduced to tears live on television after his former club sealed their first title in 30 years.
Liverpool's 19th league title and first since 1990 was confirmed on Thursday night after Manchester City were beaten away at Chelsea.
And as the club legend made an appearance on BT Sport shortly after the final whistle, he was full of emotion as he toasted victory with a glass of champagne.
When asked what he'd do if he knew back then that Liverpool would embark on such a drought, he responded: 'I think if you did you would have been arrested and sectioned.'
He then reserved special praise for the current manager, who has now added a Premier League title to last year's Champions League success.
He added: 'Since Jurgen came in, it's been very, very positive all the way through. He's been fantastic and he epitomises everything Liverpool Football Club stands for.
'He appreciates and respects everybody that works at the club, they've all got his respect. It's not just a one-off because last year they came within a point of it, this year they've only lost one, drawn two.
'They've won the World Club Championship, they've won the Champions League. Onwards and upwards and we've got a lot more happy days to look forward to now.'
Liverpool's fans have congregated outside Anfield to celebrate their coronation, but Dalglish praised their patience for not flocking to grounds when their side were in action at Everton last Sunday and against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
He said: 'The fans are hugely important to the football club. There are plenty of examples to show they do mean an awful lot to the club.
'Everyone within the club respects them and appreciates the support they get. They'll just have to wait a couple of weeks, July 4 I'm sure there'll be a queue outside the pubs in Liverpool, waiting for the chance to celebrate.
'There was a wee bit of scepticism about Liverpool fans turning up, waiting outside the ground to see if they're going to win the trophy during lockdown.
'What a disrespectful comment that was, they were magnificent. Not one of them near the ground the other day, and not one at Goodison either.'
