Newcastle United may look to loan out highly-rated youngster Jay Turner-Cooke next month.

The 18-year-old, who was signed from rivals Sunderland 18 months ago, is well regarded by coaching staff and manager Eddie Howe who described him as 'a real talent'.

He travelled on the first team squad's trip to Saudi Arabia, played against Al Hilal and figured in Saturday's 2-1 friendly win over Rayo Vallecano.

As Newcastle concentrate on cementing their place among Champions League contenders and go for extended runs in the Carabao and FA Cups, regular playing opportunities for Howe's youngsters could be limited. Staff are taking stock of whether it would be more beneficial to allow the likes of Turner-Cooke to make a temporary move and earn valued first team game time elsewhere.

Turner-Cooke plays as a creative midfielder where he likes to take the ball and dictate play yet he has also played as right-sided inverted winger too.

Former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi, now the club's loan co-ordinator, is understood to be working with a number of interested clubs who have made enquiries for Turner-Cooke. The prime objective would be to guarantee as many minutes as possible for the teenager between January and the end of the season.

Ultimately, Eddie Howe will have the finals say in the coming days as he assesses the depth of his squad and the challenge ahead.
