Like this rivalry. Not been that competitive recently but nice to see that both teams will respect each other at the end of the day after the match and post match banter.

Deep down we know that the fans of opposing clubs are the same kind of people from all walks of life and all ages who come together to support their team. Every club has their saints and sinners. Rivalries are good for our sense of identity, and it is only when we think collectively of other fans, that we have an easy time of demonising them. When you meet a cab driver, a student, a father a son or a sister who supports your bitter rivals, it is highly likely that you will identify with and even like that person, if you sit down and have a talk one on one. But for those two hours when the game is played? Stay out of my face!

I still have the 86 FA cup final programme where they too a simliar picture both teams together for the team photo. The fact that these 2 clubs were the best 2 teams in europe over thatbperiod made it even more rare

That was the time when both of Liverpool and Everton were dominating English football.

Seems only the north west is capable of this kind of respect, I have seen it anywhere else. Another example is the 2008 Manchester Derby when a packed house stayed silent to honor the Munich disaster. They were thinking of going to a minute of applause in case the silence was disrespected but Utd insisted on silence after saying don't underestimate the Manchester fans regardless of whether blue or red. It was observed. Manchester and Merseyside folks are the salt of the earth. From a City supporter.

You forgot to mention Everton went on to win several trophies through that decade, including success in Europe!
