How Man Utd could line up next season with Mbeumo and Cunha in attack

MANCHESTER UNITED'S  squad is taking shape following the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils had to remain patient to capture the key target after Brentford refused to budge in negotiations.

But with Mbeumo completing a move Ruben Amorim has a new look attack at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha will likely become two of the first names on the teamsheet.

The only question that remains is where they will play, and whether Bruno Fernandes will join them in the front three.

Cunha often played as a central striker for Wolves but he is capable operating behind the main forward or on the left.

While Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season in a role on the right hand side, though he was often allowed to stay up the pitch in a central role so he could help in Bees' counter-attacks.

He is left-footed too and his ability to cut back before delivering a cross or a shot will help him fit into Amorim's systems.

Amorim still has Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund available as striker options, though the latter has been linked with a switch to AC Milan.

Speculation has surrounded Hojlund all summer which means he may not be a part of Amorim's plans.

That means it is likely Cunha will play the No9 role in Amorim's favoured 3-4-3 formation, with Fernandes on the left and Mbeumo on the right.

More recruits are expected including a replacement for Andre Onana who will miss the beginning of the season with a torn hamstring.

Aston Villa shot stopper Emi Martinez has been linked with United hoping to complete a move for the World Cup winner.

However that is thought to be wishful thinking, with Aston Villa demanding a £40million fee for a 32-year-old keeper who only signed a long-term deal at the club last year.

Amorim must also work out his best midfield pairing, with Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo all struggling at times last season.

Ugarte and Casemiro provide more defensive cover so could be paired with Fernandes or Mason Mount, though the latter two are more effective further up the pitch.

There is also a selection dilemma in defence with Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Lenny Yoro fighting it out for three centre-back places.

Noussair Mazraoui also performed well in that role last season but could be picked at right wing-back, which might mean Diogo Dalot drops out or switches to the left and competes with Patrick Dorgu for a place.
