How many trophies has Thomas Tuchel won?

The German has overseen Chelsea's passage to a Champions League final some five months after taking over at Stamford Bridge from Frank Lampard.

Thomas Tuchel and his Chelsea side breathed a sigh of relief after claiming a top-four spot on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday but they were given a scare with goalkeeper Edouard Mendy suffering an injury six days before the Champions League final.

Mendy, an impressive performer this term, was replaced at halftime in the 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa after sustaining a knock while trying to save Bertrand Traore's goal. Kepa Arrizabalaga replaced Mendy.

"It is easy to handle (but) he fell into the frame of the net. He feels a big pain in his ribs," Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said.

"We will have an update tomorrow with what's going on. We will see if it is possible and if it is possible, we will push to do everything so he is in goal on Saturday."

Chelsea face Manchester City in the Champions League final in Porto where they will at least have the comfort of knowing they do not need to win the trophy to confirm a return to the competition next season.

Tuchel trophy haul

The German coach spent a year with Augsburg reserves (2007-08) but it was with Bundesliga side Mainz 05 where Tuchel cut his managerial teeth and started to generate a profile as an astute head coach.

Despite no trophy glory with Mainz from his spell with the Rhine based outfit from 2009-2104, he managed to secure top flight status for the side and with Jurgen Klopp's departure from Dortmund to Liverpool, Tuchel replaced Klopp for a second time.

It was with BVB where Tuchel claimed his first major managerial haul winning the DFB Pokal in 2017 with a 2-1 win over Frankfurt at Berlin's Olympic stadium.

Tension at the club led to Tuchel being released from the position some three days after the cup win and spent the following year out of the game.

Parisian move

PSG confirmed the appointment of Tuchel as new head coach in May 2018 and with his star studded team featuring the likes of Neymar, Mbappé and Di Maria, the Ligue 1 giants secured back-to-back Ligue 1 wins. The 2019-20 season also saw Tuchel steer PSG to a double with both league and Coupe de France wins. Under the German's guidance, PSG also secured two French Super Cup wins and in 2019-20 the Parisian side bagged the last ever edition of the Coupe de la Ligue. PSG reached the final of the covid-rocked Champions League and fell short in Lisbon with a 1-0 defeat.

Once again, tension with club executive's and the UCL loss ultimately became the German's undoing in the French capital.

London calling

After leaving PSG on Christmas Eve of 2020, a move to the Premier League was next up for the 47-year-old after Chelsea selected Tuchel as the man to replace Frank Lampard.

His replacement of Lampard riggered an astonishing turnaround founded on a rock-solid defence and the midfield shield provided by N'Golo Kante and Jorginho. Chelsea academy product Mason Mount helped big-money signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz find their form.

Tuchel saw his Chelsea side reach the final of the 2021 FA Cup but had to settle for a runners-up medal after defeat to Leicester City.

Saturday's final in Porto presents the German with an ideal opportunity to write his name in a page of Chelsea history in the all English Champions League final against Manchester City.
