In this FIFA World Cup group stage, all but Tunisia among the 10 African teams successfully advanced. However, in the first round of the knockout stage, except for Morocco eliminating the Netherlands on penalties, South Africa was narrowly defeated 0-1 by Canada, Ivory Coast lost 1-2 to Norway, DR Congo was overturned 1-2 by England, and Senegal was overturned 2-3 by Belgium.
