How to get a free drink across the UK if you spill your pint watching the Euros

If you've ever clutched a pint while watching the football, only to spill your drink when your team scores - there may be a way to save your pennies before picking up a new drink.

Beer giant Heineken is launching the world's first beer insurance scheme to protect football fans against unexpected spillages - a sad inevitability, especially during the excitement of Euro 2024.

If your beer - and it doesn't have to be a Heineken® - gets spilt in a pub that's participating in the scheme, you will be able to claim a replacement in the form of a pint of Heineken or Heineken 0.0 for free in the new scheme called called Heinecare.

Pubs in London, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle are taking part, and all that is required to claim your new pint is scanning a QR code on special beer mats and posters which will be displayed at the venues.

Beer drinkers will be taken to the HeineCare homepage and, in exchange for some basic information, will receive a voucher to show to bar staff to claim their replacement beverage.

But if that's not enough in the way of protection, the Dutch beer brand has also launched a special 'Pint-cho' that will keep you dry when spillages occur.

Developed by Amsterdam-based designer rainwear brand Rainkiss, the pint-cho is a lightweight, beer resistant poncho that protects fans from spilled beer.

And, if you weren't sold on the practical features - the waterproof fabric made of 20 bottles and the hood with a built-in peak - the pint-cho is available two colourways, Heineken® green and a retro kit-inspired white version.

Heineken Marketing Manager, Stephanie Dexter said; 'This year we're going to be keeping fans of all nations dry; and we'll be making sure they don't have to put up with disappointing half or three-quarter pints because of exciting on field antics.'

Lucky sports fans will find the pint-chos at participating pubs. They can also be won on social media.

Pat Fitzsimons, landlord at the Faltering Fallback pub in Finsbury Park, London, which is participating in the HeineCare Beer Insurance scheme, said; 'We saw plenty of accidental spillages at the pub on Sunday night – mainly when Jude headed in the England goal – and I'm sure it'll be the same on Thursday.

'We're thrilled to be taking part in the HeineCare programme. We're fully stocked and the bar staff are all ready to pull those replacement pints should any accidental spillages occur. England fans, we're ready for you'.
