Huddersfield 'demand £17m for Bournemouth target Philip Billing'

Huddersfield have placed a £17million price tag on Philip Billing despite banishing the midfielder to train with the academy, Sportsmail can reveal.

Billing, a target for Bournemouth, has been exiled from the first-team set-up after making highly critical comments of manager Jan Siewert at the end of last season.

The 23-year-old was not given a squad number for this season and fined three weeks' wages for saying of Siewert: 'He is special. Real German mentality, little strange. He came in like he had won the Premier League five times, a little arrogant, and I think most of the players lost the respect for him after week one. People could see there was something wrong.'

Billing was speaking while on international duty with Denmark Under 21s in May but Huddersfield kept faith with Siewert and the player's time at the club is expected to come to an end before the window closes.

Huddersfield's demands have so far stalled any move however, with Bournemouth weighing up the significant fee.

Eddie Howe is a fan of Billing, who scored twice in 27 Premier League matches last season and was one of Huddersfield's best performers under David Wagner.

He did not feature for his club after March, but played three games for his country at the European Championship in June.

Bournemouth are ultimately expected to make a bid for a player Howe regards as having major potential, although it remains to be seen if they will reach the £17m sum Huddersfield have set given Billing's current situation.
