Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed Harry Maguire while also branding Manchester United fans 'cruel'.
Maguire has suffered a poor season for United with defensive lapses costing his side numerous points in the race for the Champions League. And, in the past month, criticism on social media has been reflected in the terraces at Old Trafford as well.
The former Leicester City defender was ironically cheered after being subbed off against Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford, he was then booed by some England supporters during a friendly against the Ivory Coast. However, actions from the stands then turned extremely menacing on Thursday.
Maguire was sent a bomb threat to his house in a distressing turn of events for the United captain and his family. Match of the Day pundit Wright has now come out in support of the 29-year-old.
He told Stadium Astro: "Social media will do that to you. People are cruel.
"The guy is going through poor form and it seems to be lasting a lot longer than it should. But that happens.
"Harry Maguire didn't ask United to pay £80million for him. But he's gone to Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and with that comes a massive amount of pressure.
"Yes, you see him make mistakes that an £80million player shouldn't make but for me it's poor form and in a poorly constructed team. In the way they play, he gets exposed a lot and makes mistakes, with that comes criticism."

I think these pundits really don't want Man Utd to progress. They just want the good players out of the team and try to support the bad players that they are good and can improve. That's why I don't even give in to their assessment on Man Utd
