Ian Wright names two players Arsenal needed to beat Bayern Munich

Ian Wright has claimed that PSG star Vitinha and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne have the 'X-factor' that Arsenal desperately lacked against Bayern Munich.

The Gunners were eliminated from the Champions League by the German side after a 3-2 aggregate defeat. Joshua Kimmich scored the decisive goal at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

While Arsenal were defensively sound throughout the majority of the tie, Mikel Arteta's side struggled for creativity. And Wright believes that two players in particular would have seen the Gunners into the semi-finals.

Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, he said: “A player like Vitinha at Paris Saint-Germain. You know when you watch a team and you think: ‘You know something? He might do something’

“The first half [Odegaard produced] against Villa was one of the best performances I’ve seen from him for a long time and he’s been playing very well this season. I’m talking about someone with that bit of X-factor that we need. We’ve got a load of good players.”

Wright added: "Ben White today, I know he must be absolutely knackered, gone. For him to be going across to close down a guy with that much time, just in and around the box to cross it into a very dangerous area, where another load of our players were on their heels, it’s what we’ve got to learn.

“That’s why I will have patience with this team because they still have to learn those things. Then you do need, I don’t care what anyone says, someone with X-factor, someone with a Kevin De Bruyne vibe, they make something happen.”

Vitinha and De Bruyne have both been in excellent form this term. The former Wolves loanee has nine goals and five assists for PSG this term - a record that includes a strike in the French side’s comeback win against Barcelona.

De Bruyne missed the vast majority of the season with injury but has returned in excellent form. He has five goals and 14 appearances in just 18 outings in all competitions.

The Belgian playmaker was also on target in City’s last game - their Champions League elimination at the hands of Real Madrid. His strike had cancelled out Rodrygo’s early opener at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola's side went on to lose on penalties against the Spanish side. Ex-Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger scored the winning spot-kick for Real, who will now play Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
