Ian Wright has revealed he is worried about Arsenal showing their 'jittery nerves' towards the end of games after they took one step closer to the Premier League title.
In a game where the only goals were scored by set-pieces, Mikel Arteta's side edged out their London rivals Chelsea with a scrappy 2-1 win at the Emirates on Sunday.
The victory extended Arsenal's lead to five points ahead of Man City - who have a game in hand - at the top of the table, but at times Chelsea looked like coming back into the tie even with 10 men after Pedro Neto's second-half red card.
And Wright, who scored 185 goals for the Gunners between 1991 and 1998, is worried about his old side's ability to close out tight games in the title run-in.
'Chelsea, once they went down to 10 men, they started to play. It was worrying,' he said on Premier League Productions.
'Arsenal showing those nerves, those jittery nerves at the latter stages of games, they need to take the opportunities earlier on so they can relax at this stage.
'They have to just win now, especially the home games. It's not going to be something that instills you with loads of confidence but it's a win.'
Arsenal opened the scoring after 21 minutes in the tie through a corner, which defender William Saliba nodded home.
However, they were pegged back in the second minute of first-half injury time after Piero Hincapie's own-goal from a Chelsea corner, and the Blues began the second 45 in the ascendancy before Neto was sent off.
'We're seeing in the second half of games, you can get at Arsenal,' Wright added.
'Chelsea had 10 men there, it would be nice to find out what's happening to Arsenal in the second half.
'It comes down to "you get the job done" and I'm happy the job is done, but I'm going to be nervous for the next game because I'm seeing that again in the second half.'
Despite Chelsea being unable to score in the second half, 14 of Arsenal's Premier League goals conceded this season have come after the restart.
Wright also said he was 'baffled' by VAR not awarding the Blues a penalty when the ball struck Declan Rice's arm just before their equaliser.
The Arsenal midfielder was holding Jorrel Hato as the ball came in, before it struck his elbow and almost went into his own net.
'(Rice's) arm has come up. I'm baffled at what they're looking for,' Wright said.
'Decs is actually holding him. His arm's up there and now it moves up. When I saw that I thought they're going to give a pen.
'But then you don't know what they're going to do up there. You look at the pen that Man United got today, I'm thinking that's definitely a penalty.'
The Premier League's Match Centre posted an immediate statement detailing why the penalty wasn't awarded.
'The referee's call of no penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed there was no punishable handball offence with Rice challenging an opponent as the ball hit his arm,' they said.
Arsenal's winning goal came when Jurrien Timber headed home from a Declan Rice corner in the 66th-minute.
But the latter stages of the clash still left the Arsenal support feeling nervy, with David Raya making a fingertip save in injury time from an Alejandro Garnacho cross, before Liam Delap's late strike was ruled out for offside.
Arteta credited Raya with bringing his heart 'back to life' with his late heroics.
'He (Raya) is a keeper that knows how to maintain his focus and decide a football match when you need it because sometimes he doesn't participate at all, and then in one action, you have to be there, and that's very, very difficult to do,' the Arsenal boss said post-match.
'The save that he made in the last action... it's a cross, not a shot, but he ended up with an unbelievable save.
'I got the right angle and my heart almost stopped, but David's hand was there to bring it back to life.'

The way Arsenal play invites pressure because they always play backwards and when the other teams pressurise them they collapse. Last minutes of the game are always a struggle when Arsenal is leading by a goal or draw.
U observed well How can a team wit a man down have The most attempt 😔

I am an Arsenal fan. However, if they cannot dominate even 10 men how can they supposed to lift the EPL tile or even say UCL. I have doubt.
U re a real football fan my bro this is exactly what I was lamenting about but some clueless arsenal fans didn't see it that way How can 10men push u back, had the most attempt after going a man down Am not convinced at all

Arsenal now need referee in their last games. They are grateful for the help in the previous 10 games and would love to keep benefitting from the corrupt PGMOL officials.

they should keep Viktor Gyokeres for the 90 minutes and make good substitutions that will improve the team going forward not just as they did yesterday , Eze is a good player but not in big teams , he can not match their pace and also the absence of captain Odegaard is felt in midfield
the actually sub was to be havertz for eze ...

Arteta is a problem His inability to read matches is alarming A good coach study and analyze Match and do necessary changes at the right time Gyokeres and Trussard were figure head from the start of the game this Areteta could not see, to me he should be sacked and a good coach is appointed If not situation will remain the same,

I always expected a very tough game for Arsenal against Chelsea even with 10 men. Chelsea is a very good team & they always proves it against & to Arsenal even if they don't to the rest of the world. there were a slight upper hand movement from Rice which I thought would of been a penalty after watching United game a couple hours before but as I always say VAR is far from solving the problems it was designed to solve as humans are still making the decisions and all decisions are made according to who is in charge. I still had my confidence in Arsenal but they do have to work on those jittery endings. scoring more goals certainly would help.

You’re worried because you know they’re chokers, from the owners down to the players. This team doesn’t come anywhere near the team of bergkamp, Henry , Anelke, Perez , viera, Dixon etc.

From my own observation it has always been after the replacement of VG. I wonder why the gaffer has not observe this.,do a playback on all matches this has been done. secondly zubimendi is losing self confidence and making fearful mistakes at vital defensive areas,I think it is time he is rested for norgard. our must learn how to communicate with his players to cool down during matches. I can understand the panic it is as a result of past experiences of losing grip when close to the end but the team is in better position and condition is better than the past and I believe they will nick it this time around. ,they should remain unfazed by the haters and communicate with each other on pitch and the rest shall be history.@abubakar ojezua usman.kaduna Nigeria.

That is the right word. "JITTERY" Sincerely of late, Arsenal 15mins to the end of every game has been a show of jittery play pattern most especially when they are leading. To me, Arsenal didn't play any football in the second half of the game last night. Can't string passes together with frequent interceptions. What saves Arsenal was the open play pattern of Chelsea. If it were to be a low block team, most likely the game would have ended a draw or even a loss. We do not know where this jittery thing comes from. At the beginning of the season, this wasn't the case with Arsenal. They were unarguably composed all through the matches. Then I remember we kept many clean sheets but nowadays our hearts were always in our mouths towards the end of every game. I don't think with this attitude, we could win the rest of our games without drawing or losing. I think Zubimendi and Rice are tired. Arteta has a lot of work to do.

This is absolutely what am saying, yes we won but how can u be under pressure playing against 10men.What is our coach doing to calm the nerves,I bet he's under pressure too. If not for Rayas amazing save we could hv went home wit just a draw. Lets tell ourselves the truth arsenal is no where playing like title contenders. All our players re off nd its really frightening going forward 😔

Kudos to Raya for saving Arsenal. Real bot legar. Lucky to get a win. Liam should have got both Garnacho & Delap a little earlier to have max effect. Chelsea missed out on draw. Clear cut penalty as Rice arm were up & unnatural in the box when the ball hit him. Baffling & surprised at VAR.

After the Chelsea penalty appeal for Rice handball, the goal went in anyway as an own goal by Hincapie from the subsequent corner kick. That justice was served hot because they deserved a spot kick to be honest.
