'I'm hungry to win' – Konsa joins Premier League champions Arsenal

Ezri Konsa says he wants to "keep winning" after signing for Arsenal from Aston Villa.

The defender has joined the club for a reported £51m fee, with a potential of £4m in add-ons.

While Arsenal have not confirmed the length of his contract, simply saying it is "long-term", he is believed to have put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the Premier League champions.

Konsa spent seven years with Villa after joining from Brentford in 2019, making 286 appearances in all competitions and scoring 12 goals.

He was also part of the Villa side that won the Europa League last term, starting as they beat Freiburg 3-0 in the final.

"I'm super excited. It's a privilege to be here, and I can't wait to get started," he said in his first interview with the club's website. 

"I want to keep winning; I'm hungry to win, and that's what I'm here for. It's a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world.

"The chemistry they [the defenders] have – they all want to defend for each other. The love they have for defending, they love keeping the ball out of the net, which is what you have to do as a defender.

"But I just love the way they are together. What they've built over the past few years has been special."

Last season, Konsa made 48 appearances in all competitions, with only Morgan Rogers (4,562) being handed more minutes than him (4,170) among Villa players.

He topped the charts for touches (3,348), passes (2,873), successful passes (2,730) and clearances (164) among his team-mates.

The defender was also included in England's World Cup squad as they finished third this summer – he played in all eight matches and scored in the third-place play-off.

Konsa will play no part in Arsenal's Premier League opener against Coventry City on Friday, but could make his debut against his former side on August 31.
