Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and this season he will be fighting to win his fifth Zamora Trophy, something that only Antoni Ramallets and Victor Valdes have achieved.
The Slovenian currently has four but, despite once again being the LaLiga Santander goalkeeper who conceded the least goals in a season, at FIFA that does not seem to be enough for him to be nominated for The Best FIFA Football Awards.
Instead, Liverpool's Alisson Becker, Manchester City's Ederson and Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen were considered to have had better campaigns. Regarding Ter Stegen, however, he conceded 32 goals in 35 games in LaLiga Santander whereas Oblak conceded 27 goals in 37 games.
Oblak himself, who is currently on international duty with Slovenia, explained his thoughts on his omission.
"In the awards, it is not important who is better," he said.
"The only important thing is what you win with your team."
Alisson's Liverpool won the Champions League, Ederson secured the Premier League, and Ter Stegen lifted LaLiga Santander, so Oblak's theory stands up.
Although Oblak triumphed in the European Super Cup and secured a second-placed finish in LaLiga Santander with Atleti, but he is optimistic that he will be amongst the awards this time next year.
"I hope that things change this season," he noted.
"That I win with Atletico and, as a result, I am named amongst the award nominees."
The 2019/20 campaign is Oblak's sixth at Atleti, and he has a staggering record thus far. In 211 games, he has kept a clean sheet in 119 of those and conceded a total of 140 goals. In terms of his trophy cabinet, he has a winners' medal from the Europa League, Supercopa de Espana and European Super Cup.
Those numbers and achievements mean that he is a vital piece for Atleti, but seemingly that is not enough for him to be nominated for The Best FIFA Football Awards.

We conceded one goal in that match because of Alisson, so what, he slipped because of surface and that mistake has nothing to do with passing ๐คญ๐คญ #YNWA
He did it twice, my point is, he can't pass the ball out from the back, if the pressure becomes too much, he falters, funnily I have to say

Better than Stergen eh?? I'll leave that you. Watch Allison against Leceister last season, see his "passing ability"

Oblak is best Goalkeeper in the world Alisson is 2nd but Alisson's and Ederson's passing is on another level So Alisson has chances to surpass Oblak๐๐ #YNWA
