Ipswich Town 1-1 Nottingham Forest: Glasner's wasteful side settle for a point

Nottingham Forest could not turn their late pressure into the winner as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

Neco Williams gave Forest an early lead which Julio Enciso cancelled out before the break, but despite numerous chances in the second half, Oliver Glasner's side had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Forest were on the front foot at the start, with Jair Cunha setting himself up on the spin from a Nikola Milenkovic nod down, but his volley was straight at Christian Walton.

Former Ipswich man Liam Delap then sliced wide before playing his part in the 13th-minute opener, holding play up well for Daniel Munoz to clip in a cross for Williams, who turned past Walton with a fine first-time finish on his 150th Premier League appearance.

Jaden Philogene and Enciso both tested Matz Sels at the other end before Morgan Gibbs-White slid in to meet Dan Ndoye's delivery, but Leif Davis reacted brilliantly to hook it off the line.

And Forest's missed chances were punished in the 41st minute as Milenkovic took a poor touch and then played a loose backpass, which was pounced on by Enciso, who coolly slotted past Sels one-on-one.

Just three minutes after the break, Ipswich were given a worry when VAR looked at a late tackle from Issa Diop on James McAtee, but he was only given a booking, with the challenge not deemed to be denying a goalscoring opportunity due to the midfielder taking a touch away from goal.

Forest turned up the pressure once more, with Walton pushing away Murillo's dipping volley before then nodding wide from the next corner.

An unmarked Ndoye arguably should have restored Forest's lead in the 64th minute, but Davis was once again well positioned to clear the poked effort off the line.

Delap and Callum Hudson-Odoi both fired wide as late chances went begging, while Jack Clarke also failed to hit the target at the other end when Ipswich tried to snatch a win at the death.

Forest's profligacy proves costly

Forest's struggles in attack have been well-documented this season, and they once again struggled to build on an early lead, despite some great openings throughout the game, even after they were pegged back.

Despite now scoring the joint-fewest goals in the Premier League (six), Forest rank second for shots attempted in the competition (137 – 17 against Ipswich).

However, their profligacy was not helped by an error just before the break; since the start of last season in the Premier League, Jan Paul van Hecke (four) is the only outfield player to commit more errors leading to goals than Milenkovic (three).

But the points were there for the taking after the break, and Forest had 11 shots in the second half to Ipswich's one, though they only managed to get one of those on target.

The Tricky Trees have now dropped seven points from winning positions in the Premier League this term, the fourth-most of any side, and only one fewer than they lost in the whole of last season (eight).

Ipswich, by contrast, continued their fine start to life back in the top-flight; they have now gained more points from losing positions than any other side in the competition (seven), while they have hit double figures for points after eight games (10).

Indeed, they now have as many points at Portman Road in the Premier League this season as they managed in the entirety of their previous campaign (seven in 2024-25).
