People in the football world have spoken out about the shocking incident at the Emirates
Tottenham have issued an indefinite ban to the supporter who threw a banana skin in the direction of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang yesterday.
A riveting North London Derby was won by Arsenal thanks to a comeback from 2-1 down at half-time.
Aubameyang had given the Gunners the lead early in the match, before Spurs roared back to lead 2-1 at the break, before Aubameyang added a second 11 minutes into the second half to give the home side the lift they needed to go on and win it.
And it was while celebrating his first goal that the Gabonese forward had a banana skin thrown in his direction in what appeared to be a racist attack.
Following the game, a Spurs spokesman said: "Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban."
The Met Police revealed that four men had been arrested following the clash at the Emirates, with one charged with a public order offence.
The incident has been widely condemned by people in the football world.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery held his press conference ahead of the game with Manchester United on Wednesday today and he said: "I don’t accept this behaviour, and nobody accepts it. I think the [police] are doing their work."
England manager Gareth Southgate, meanwhile, said: "If proven that there’s any sort of racially motivated incident then it’s unacceptable. First observation is that it definitely looks that way.
"I think we talk a lot about how much we’ve progressed in terms of dealing with racism in our country but we still have moments like this that disturb you and concern you."
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: "We have to do more and campaign more against it, we fine clubs but it is not enough, we need to educate the young people but when you see an event like that it is a disaster if you ask me."
Racism campaigners Kick It Out believe incidents of racism are on the rise and anyone caught doing so should be banned for life.
In a tweet they saiud: "We condemn this action, welcome the police investigation - the person who did this should be banned from football for life."

I am in no way condoning the act of throwing a missile onto the pitch, but the police found no shred of evidence that the incident was racially motivated and any racist connotation to the incident was strenuously denied by the culprit, a Greek/Cypriot.
To be honest I think it is racist. He could of thrown an apple.

The headline question assumes Racism had gone away, or reduced. Again making light of a serious thing.

it's pretty disgraceful as it makes the club look bad as well . Now a spurs fan did it and it reflects pretty poorly on other spurs fans and their club who don't support that

Typical knee jerk reaction by those who make a profession out of being offended, like Kick it Out.
