Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak would be the 'perfect' signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window, says former Reds defender Jose Enrique.

Jurgen Klopp is set to lose star duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when the pair head off to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, meaning he will be short of options in attack.

Their impending departures are likely to tempt him into exploring the winter market for replacements, which could be essential if they are to reclaim the Premier League title.

And Enrique has urged his former club to go out and sign Isak, the 22-year-old forward who has five goals under his belt for Sociedad this season.

'I would go for one player who can play across the front three,' Enrique, who made 99 appearances in five years at Liverpool, told Metro.

‘I love Isak from Real Sociedad, I think they should have signed him in the summer before he signed a new deal with Sociedad.

‘Isak is definitely perfect for Liverpool’s profile of signings, a young player, not spending hundreds of millions you’re going to spend £50-60m, definitely I would go for him.’

Isak started his career in Sweden with AIK, scoring 13 goals in 29 games and subsequently earning a move to Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

After making just one senior appearance for Dortmund, the Sweden international moved to Sociedad three years later and has since developed into one of the brightest young prospects in Europe.
