Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi will officiate Arsenal and Chelsea's UEL final

UEFA has picked Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi for the Europa League final between Arsenal and Chelsea

Rocchi, 45, was selected by FIFA for the 2018 World Cup in Russia where he refereed three matches, including the 3-3 draw between Spain and Portugal.

He has been an international referee since 2008 and has spent this season officiating in the Champions League, taking charge of six matches.

This will be the first Europa League final Rocchi has overseen, with his last involvement in the showpiece event coming in 2017 when he was the fourth official Manchester United's victory over Ajax. He was also the fourth official in 2010 when for Atletico Madrid's 2-1 extra-time victory over Fulham in Hamburg, Germany.

Arsenal reached the final courtesy of a 7-3 aggregate victory over Valencia, while Chelsea required penalties to see of Frankfurt in the other semi-final.

Fans were left outraged ahead of the event by the low allocation of tickets - just 6,000 per club - while travel difficulties mean some supporters will need to spend upwards of £1,000 to make the trip.

The Italian match official team for the game on May 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, includes experienced video review specialist Massimiliano Irrati.

The Europa League final is the first Europa League match to use video assistant referees.
